Mountain gorillas are the largest living primates. The world’s remaining mountain gorillas live in three countries spanning four national parks—Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Volcanoes National Park, and Virunga National Park. There are currently less than 1,000 mountain gorillas remaining in the wild. The biggest threats to these critically endangered great apes come from deforestation and the region’s growing population.
